Improving Your Mood in the Mornings

Though, ‘waking up on the wrong side of the bed’ is just a saying, I think it's safe to say we all have rolled right off the bed and into a bad day. Many times a bad day rolls about through circumstances we can’t control. Whether it's experiencing bad news the day before or dreading the workday ahead- you have the power to control your thoughts and mood towards the day. Here are 3 tips to try to brighten your mood.
Hit the gym. The power of exercise can supply enough endorphins to turn that frown upside down. Even going on a quick walk can help lower your stress hormones and promote an endorphin release. Not only will the walking benefit you but for a double bonus, the sun can trigger the release of serotonin along with those endorphins making for a big hit of those happy go lucky feelings.
Stay tuned in to the present. Even though your daydreams can be more cheerful than your bad news, realizing that those dreams aren’t reality, can have the power to bring your mood down. Try to take a few minutes to practice some deep breathing. Focus on the breath movements, going in and out. If those thoughts start to wonder, guide your attention back to your deep breathing.
Pick up a pen and paper. Counting your blessings could give you that mood boost you are looking for. Try writing down 3 things you are thankful for everyday. Before you know it, you’ll have a pretty full gratitude journal and a full heart that's bound to put a smile on your face.
